[Contest] YouthMin.org Kindle Fire Giveaway

This week, one of the community blogs I write for, YouthMin.org, has a contest going on that you need to get in on.

It is super easy to enter, you just leave a comment on their article saying anything you want and if they get 200 commenters, they will give away a Kindle Fire to one of the commenters. Super easy!

Here is an excerpt of the article.

We launched Youthmin.org officially in January, but started uploading posts in December, and in those 4 months, today we reached another milestone – 200 Posts. To celebrate, we’re holding another Contest of sorts. We want to see this post get to 200 comments in 1 week, and if it happens, we’ll give away a Kindle Fire to one commenter chosen at random (Kindle Fire in keeping with the theme of 200. Sure, technically its $199, but we all know what that really means).

[Contest] March 2012 Guest Posts

We love writing articles that serve youth workers and want to continue pressing on this Spring for you, but there is a hiccup in the timeline.

The baby is coming in March.

During this season that I WILL be taking off, I would LOVE to have 20 guest posts to continue the discussion, providing great resources, and pushing on with this website. Thus, the March Guest Post contest was born.

CONTEST RULES

We want to continue the distinguish between youth ministry articles and technology/social media articles. You have two ways to enter to win, each with a prize of a $10 Amazon gift card as the prize.

  1. Write an article on youth ministry that is close to your heart. Some great topics could cover theology, hot topics within the church, volunteers, best practices, interactions with parents, discipleship, programming or summer schedules. It is wide open.
  2. Write an article on social media, technology, or blogging that can impact ministry in some way. We have so many different examples with this and it can come from so many different angles, that the possibilities are endless. What we are not looking for is for you to put an infographic together with a single question and submit that. Instead, give your interpregation on the idea, offer some practical help, and show the purpose of the post.
  3. We will have two winners. The best post for each of these categories will win a $10 gift card and you may submit an article for each category to double your chances of winning.
  4. Please visit our posting guidelines for how to write a great article.
  5. All submissions need to be in by March 2, 2012 at 5PM MST. The two winners will be announced on March 16. We’ve extended the contest to March 10.

Judging

Here is how we will judge who will win:

  • 30% of the decision is on which article Stephen believes is the best article.
  • 30% of the decision is on which article Jeremy believes is the best article.
  • 40% of the decision is on the number of views each article gets the day it was posted. (This means you want to drive traffic to your article!)

Thus, if all three of the factors disagree, in the end you the viewers get to decide who wins.

The contest ends on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 5PM MST. We’ve extended the contest to March 10. We will post the names of the two winners at seventy8productions.com Friday, March 16, 2012 at 6AM MST.

All rights reserved. We encourage multiple entries, but remember we are looking for quality, not quantity. All information provided to us is covered under our privacy policy and terms of use. The winners of the contest will be contacted by seventy8productions for a mailing address and contact information. All contestants are allowed to win one prize per year. Amazon and Facebook are not affiliated with seventy8Productions in any way. Any forms of cheating, lying, or stealing will result in withdrawing from the contest and banning from all further contests at seventy8Productions.

  • Every single post on this site is up for grabs to comment on, so do not feel like you are stuck having to comment on things you do not care about. 20 Ways To Do Contests Right On Social Networks

People love to do contests on their websites and that is great! In fact, we are hosting a contest on our blog to give away a $15 Amazon.com giftcard for the top commenter for this month. The problem is that many people do not know what they should and should not be doing on social media sites.

To help you protect yourself, here are twenty random things you need to do to do contests right on social networks. Let us be clear that it is always best to go to the social networks’ terms of use as this is NOT an exhaustive list by an means and only focuses on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+.

  1. The reason for all of this worrying is that laws are different in every state of the United States and even more so in other countries. The simple solution is to not allow it. The governments’ worry is that contests will be rigged and this will promote money laundering.
  2. Contests, giveaways, and sweepstakes are all different things. Some social networks allow one and not the other.
  3. All contests should have a terms of use and privacy policy accompanied with it. That is a general online law, regardless if you host a contest on a social media site or your blog.
  4. If you do not know the rules and still do contests wrong on social media sites, you could be not only banned from the network, but also fined.
  5. Twitter is the most liberal and allows contests.
  6. You can find Twitter’s contest rules here.
  7. Unfortunately, between of the limited amount of characters, you cannot get the rules across, so provide a link back to a website with the full details.
  8. Encourage your Twitter followers not to create fake accounts to win the contest.
  9. Request that contestants provide an @reply back to you so that others do not see your contest tweets as spam.
  10. Google+ does not allow you to run a contest solely from their website.
  11. Here is Google+ rules for contests.
  12. To properly do a contest on Google+, you need to physically host the website on another place, most likely announcing the contest on your profile and then linking back to your website for details.
  13. You cannot do anything that involves their +1, including how many people +1 your link or update.
  14. Facebook is the most strict of these three. They have removes many businesses from their network, so be careful.
  15. You can use a third-party app on Google+ to host the contest and many businesses have done it successfully, but there are not a lot of online resources about the Google+ app or how to create third-party apps for contests.
  16. Here is Facebook’s policy and guidelines.
  17. You cannot use any parts of Facebook for a contest. This includes. “Like our facebook page to enter a contest” or “Leave a comment to enter to win ________.” Illegal.
  18. The previous one includes having the Facebook Like button on your own blog. You are still doing it wrong.
  19. You cannot use “When we get to XXX number of followers, we will give away something.
  20. You can create a custom page within your Facebook page that is hosted on a non-Facebook server. Unfortunately, this takes resources, programming knowledge, and lots of time!

With these twenty tips, will you be doing a contest with the help of social media or because of the endless rules, will you avoid everything accept linking to your website?

[Contest] Be The Top Commenter In January 2012

We are itching to do another contest on this website (or maybe that’s the athlete’s foot flaring up again) and so we would like to present the Top Commenter contest. The prize for this contest is a $15 gift card to Amazon and all you have to do is comment.

Here is what we are looking for.

  • You may comment up to three times a day. The person with the most comments between Friday January 13, 2012 and Tuesday, January 31, 2012 will win the gift card.
  • We are looking for thought-filled comments and not a pat on the back. (i.e. “Thanks for the great post”) Only comments that further the discussion or offer constructive criticism will be considered.
  • In the case of a tie, the quality of comments will be the deciding factor.
  • Every single post on this site is up for grabs to comment on, so do not feel like you are stuck having to comment on things you do not care about. Hopefully we have covered enough different topics in youth ministry, social media, and Christianity to give you something to have an opinion and voice on.

The hope of all of this is that we get some constructive feedback that will not only serve us to write better content but hopefully to get you better resources. Do not hesitated to give your opinions on if what we say goes against your thinking, we just ask that everything betters the discussion. We are excited to see how this goes!

Guest Post Winner

This week we have featured eight guest posts from a pool of people on the topic of thankfulness. You can see the rules of the contest here. The winner of the contest will win a set of three books from us, including Do Hard Things, 99 Thoughts on Leading Well, and The 9.

To judge who would win, we used what we thought was a fair formula described below:

  • 30% of the decision is on which Jeremy believes is the best article.
  • 30% of the decision is on which Jeremy believes is the best article.
  • 40% of the decision is on the number of views each article gets.

Thus, if all three of the factors disagree, in the end you the viewers get to decide who wins.

So without further ado, the winner of this month’s guest post contest is Adam Lorenz with the blog Thankfulness? Hell No. To receive your prize, please send your full mailing address to us via our contact page.

Contest Winner

We appreciate everyone’s participation in this contest! For those who won, please send us an email via our Contact Us page so we can get your information.

The winner of the $10 Amazon giftcard is Aaron Stetson who posted:

I think what you want to figure out is what the ministry position is going to look like and require and then search for that specific type of person.  Will their primary responsibility be administration?  Then you probably don’t want to look for someone with a heart for evangelism and contact work.  If they are going to be in charge of discipling and shepherd oriented don’t get someone who’s passion is missions.

The most help any church or organization could do before looking for someone is decide what they want.  Specifically and make it clear.  Don’t go for someone just because their credentials, figure out what you need and look specifically for that.  If you don’t know what you need you shouldn’t hire someone til you do.  There are always going to be expectations by a congregation or constituents wether verbalized or not.  Get a focus group together to discuss what is important to the church/organization wants/needs.  Meet for a couple months and define this as clear as you possibly can including specific questions to ask potential candidates.

It’s far better to put off searching a couple months and know what you want then to be searching again in 18 months because your and or the person you hired they aren’t what you ended up needing.

The winner of the book of their choice is:

[Contest] Qualities in Hiring An Associate Staff

[UPDATE] Facebook decided today was the day to enforce HTTPS, of course when we go live with our app. So ignore going to Facebook and just leave your answer to the question in the contest rules below in the comments!

CONTEST RULES

You have two ways to enter to win, each with their own prize.

  1. The first is giving an answer our question below. Afterwards, we will pick what we believe is the best answer out of the bunch and they will receive our top prize.
What is a vital quality to look for in hiring an associate staff to your ministry?
  2. The second way to win is by posting this Tweet:
“I just entered to win 2 prizes from @seventy8prod at http://wp.me/p1tL3d-vh and you can too. Contest closes at 5PM MST on 10/28/11.”.

We are hoping to gain some great insight into what churches, non-profits, and people look for if they were to want to hire an associate staff to assist in their mission.
